Ahoy mateys!
I got sent a media pack for a new cartoon/cardgame/website/brand thinger called Chaotic. Its being done by 4kids.tv (they did pokemon). I`ll give you a rundown of what ive learned of the Chaotic Card Game so far.
ConceptChaotic is a card game, it also has a digital counter part. Every single card has its own unique code, that you can use to get that same card online. So you`ll be able to play it online and offline as well. You have monsters that you fight with, items, locations and magic spells. Past that the exact rules of the card game are not really explicitly given.
CartoonI got to see the first 2 episodes (which shold premeir in Jan 6th on Fox). The animation is not anime style and its not quite the classic hand drawn look. They dont have the black lines that normally border the animation. All in all the Animation is diffrent, but not in a bad way.
The plot of the toon is you follow the main charecter Tom, as he learns about what the heck Chaotic really is. He plays it in real life, as well as a laptop version. One day he gets a code that allows him to take his Pokedex...er Game Boy....er Scanner and enter the truly online world of Chatoic. Think Matrix. In this virtual world you run around fighting and trying to scan the monsters that live there. Once you scan the monster you can use it in your own battles.
WebsiteThe website is where you`ll be able to play the game online, it seems very akin to both Yugioh and Magic Online. Sadly, the website uses almost exclusivly Papyrus font, and that makes me sad. (I told you it was over used). The website game looks like it has some potential to be intresting. To get the cards in the online game (which is free btw) you have to buy the real life cards, remember each and every card has its own code.
Card GameNo idea on this. The rules are not really touched upon in any of the media stuff i got.

Here is a screenshot of a creature though. Art isnt 1/2 bad (And its better then yugiohs haha)

Anyway, there you go. I`ll give out more information about it later. :3

Fools. It is 4kids. They cannot be trusted.
They are EVIL!
They must be shot with the power of... stuff!
"..."
"...'
I'm calm now...
Artwork looks alright, but for whatever reason, I prefer Yugioh. I don't go for the cards that are supposed to tell a story or explain an event.
And look at the logo. Theres a POKE BALL in it. COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT! YES I LIED ABOUT BEING CALM!!! 4KIDS ARE THE DEVIL!
Um... yeah... sorry about the caps...

The game sounds cool, but the card layout just screams "I fail". Too many stats and stuff.

I was so busy with my rant that I forgot to mention that. Good point.

Yeah, art is alright. I just think maybe it could be a little less... cartoonish (like more serious/M:tG)
The online/offline thing is a really kool idea, so that means ppl can still play chaotic even if there's no one locally to play it.
Of course, since we really have no idea wat the rules are, so this could be the best TCG ever to be made, or it could fail within 3 monsters. We'll have to wait and see

Oh, and they should have made the logo like Abarat's logo so it was the same upside

Yeah all those stats make my head spin. I bet they are just comparison stats though like "this number is higher then that number". kinda like ATK works in Yugioh.
I cant imagine it being much more complicated then that.
Its one of those wait and see things. The art coudlnt certinly be MORE cartoony. Its not bad in that sense, imho.

Until you get stuff like "increase stat y by 30, stat x by 10, etc etc" and you have a ton of data to keep track of. Not very irl tournament friendly, but it should work for an online game.

Remember Gate's game Arcana Alchemist? I said already his first version game would fail because he had TWELVE numbers in his cards. When he simplified the stats to I believe five, then the game started to look good, commercialized even. Far better than this.
This game is far too complex for the age group they're looking for. And no one, especially the consumer is going to waste their time with a card game like this with rules that look like the Digimon TCG.
This game is a miss. It might hit, but only if the TCG community is DESPERATE to promote them, as it seems they might be soon.

Notice it's by 4kids. AKA, kids.
Meh. I went to the site and tried to watch the first two episodes. It was so slow, it wouldn't even load.

That's 'cause they use the word "mugic" (maybe mugix?) instead of "magic" :S
And who knows about all the stats? They might think of something that allows ppl to easily keep track of stat changes (like maybe a little thing u can attack to the side of the card that keeps track of it or something...)

Let's not forget. The stats.
I see 6 numbers there not counting an element.
# of numbers in MTG: 3 - Attack, Defense, Mana
# of numbers in YGO: 3 - Level, Attack, Defense
# of numbers in Chaotic: SIX - 4 in the left, one in the bottom-left, one in the bottom-right
Here's another piece of funny info for you all.
# of numbers in original Star Wars TCG: SIX
'nuff said.
And before those claim Pokemon had 6 numbers say something about it, I'd like to point out that four of those numbers actually involved ATTACKS and not STATS. BIG difference.

That was the argument I got one year ago when Gate promoted his second version on Arcana Alchemist, that Pokemon had 6 numbers and made it.
there's 6 STATS here. There's at most complex, 4 STATS in Pokemon.

Dec 29 2006, 07:31 PM
Actually, it's 7 stats. The thing in the top left corner is a stat.
If I remember correctly, it's the race or something, so I guess it's similar to attributes in YGO

I could make a TCG and dominate the world. =\
The bottom left 'Stat' looks like a Level or something like that. The right 'Stat' looks like a Health thing or something...
Who knows. O.O

Hey guys, me again (Cue the "Who are you?"'s)
First, this thing can have anywhere from 6 to eleven stats, depending on the counting of that bar-thing in the bottom right with the five symbols.
Second, Myke, I was checking out the Wii's layout (On my Wii, duh) and there is so far, only one, semi-minor, problem. Newbs who might not know how to zoom in yet, won't be able to click the "Next Page" or "Number" buttons on the bottom. My little brother tried, and couldn't figg're it out til I showed him how to zoom in.

Lol, for the online play it will easily be abused if anyone is able to look at the scanned images they will get the codes and hence all the cards.

Good artwork, but there has to be a catch.

Nah. Each card has its own code, meaning if 1 Maxxor's code is N363L79GF2D6, there won't be any other cards with that code, and once that code is used no other ppl will be able to use that code.
Although someone might be able to make a program that enters all 4,738,381,338,321,616,896 codes, hence getting all the cards >.<
Harpuia
Dec 30 2006, 03:19 PM
Actually, it's 26 * 36^11 codes. There is no particular order the numbers and letters will be on there, except I'm almost sure the first character is a letter.
Oh, and as for the Stargate TCG... what?
This isn't the Pokemon TCG era anymore, TCGs are no longer mainstream. For a TCG to gain any notice, they will have to be advertised the way 4Kids is advertising Chaotic for one, and then two they actually have to be good, something this TCG lacks.

My big beef isn't with how many colors and elements and stuff there are around the card. I'm having a huge problem with these four giant arse numbers on the left side and by the looks of that effect they are going to be constantly increasing, decreasing, draining and filling. IMO the Pokémon TCG is a huge pain to play because you need about six pounds of loose change to cover your cards in to keep up with the HP. Can you imagine doing that again only four times as much? My head hurts enough from Pokémon. I don't want to touch this with a ten foot pole.
